Janis Griffin – Founder
As Founder of Student Unity Project, Janis brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to social justice issues. She holds a TESL Certificate and has studied at Lakehead University, the University of Manitoba in the Bachelor of Social Work program, Continuing Education Teacher of Adults (Centennial College), is a Graduate of the Context and Constellation Learning Programs, and has completed all 4 levels of the Self-Mastery Courses offered by Advanced Wellness. Janis is a much sought after program developer, presenter, and guest speaker who offers a series of programs including relationship workshops for couples/singles and other personal development programs. She has taught at the York Region District School Board, the Durham District School Board, the Centre for Lived Language, Forward Motion Yoga Studio, Glow Yoga, and the Mind Body Spirit Retreats offered by the Womens’ Travel Network. In 2013 she created SUP in order to bring an innovative and solution based model to end the pervasive erosion of the human spirit of youth at the high school level on the ever increasing culture of bullying.
Robert Griffin – Co-Founder
Bob Griffin is SUP’s Co-founder and has worn many hats as it relates to the organization. With his extensive legal background he has ensured that SUP meets CRA guidelines and procedures, while at the same time taking responsibility for banking, payroll, and corporate governance. Working in the justice system for over 40 years and having been witness to a myriad of injustices, has given Bob the tools to make a real difference in peoples’ lives. In addition to his legal training and experience, he has expanded his education outside of the legal community and is a graduate of multiple personal development programs – Context Associates, Transformational Arts program, the Option Institute, and the Trust and Joy Programs offered by Constellation Learning.
Tim Morton – Director
Tim Morton is Managing Partner and founder of Prompta, proudly Canada’s First Diverse Certified Management Consulting Firm by the CGLCC. Under Tim’s leadership, Prompta fosters an environment and culture that embraces respect, diversity, acceptance, and inclusion. Tim works to create transformational corporate environments where all employees feel safe and empowered, and are able to bring our “whole selves” to work. He’s a trusted advisor to executives and leadership teams, and a champion for diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Emily Fata – Social Media Director
Emily is a student at Ryerson University majoring in psychology. She was introduced to SUP when she applied for summer employment under the federal government’s summer jobs program and has stayed with the organization as a volunteer. As SUP’s social media director she brings her talent as a writer to not only create promotional materials, but contributes to SUP’s blog and to SUP’s social media sites. Prior to joining SUP Emily was engaged in multiple social causes including the 24 hour famine a All Saints CSS, a reading buddy for early elementary aged children and is a volunteer student note taker at Ryerson University. Whenever she is able to, Emily makes a positive difference in society.
Drew Taylor – Webmaster
Our resident web developer has a background in open data and Internet activism. Drew has worked as programmer and data engineer for a wide variety of projects of every scale, and always brings a unique blend of creativity and professionalism to his work. Other charitable contributions include projects with Open North and Ladies Learning Code. He’s super happy with the new website design and had a lot of fun composing with the bright colour scheme. An active contributor to SUP since the original website creation in 2013, he hopes to continue to be involved with SUP for many fabulous years to come.
